New to Legrand’s range of lighting and motion management systems are energy saving motion sensors designed for use in areas with little or no natural light, in industrial, commercial and domestic buildings.

“Legrand’s new motion sensors, which automatically reduce the amount of time lighting is left on unnecessarily, are particularly suitable for passage areas, like corridors, hallways, staircases and restrooms,” says Johan Bosch, general manager, Legrand SA. “These motion sensors have an automatic switch on/off facility, according to whether or not anyone is present. Passive infrared (PIR) technology automatically detects occupancy up to 8 m, by reacting to movement.

Legrand’s motion and lighting management systems ensure a building only consumes just the amount of energy it needs, when it needs it, to ensure energy waste is avoided.

“For optimum detection of movement, sensors must have an unhindered view of the area, with no obstacles in the devices’ detection fields. It is also important that access points, like doors, are fully covered by the detection areas. To ensure correct measurement of the light level, sensors must not have any luminous flux in direct view.”

Legrand motion sensors have three wires and neutral. These sensors are suitable for quick and easy indoor false ceiling mounting, for interior wall mounting and for installation on outdoor walls and ceilings.

New motion sensors have been designed for use in areas with little or no natural light in industrial, commercial and domestic buildings.

PIR ceiling mounted motion sensors, with an IP 41 rating, have a recommended fixing height of 2,5 m, with a 360° detection range. Wall mounted motion sensors, with an IP42 rating, have a 140° detection range and outdoor wall and ceiling mounting motion sensors have an IP55 rating for protection against dust and water in outdoor installations. These units have a 360° detection range.

Legrand motion devices have a manual adjustment facility for a light level threshold between 10 and 1 275 lux and an adjustable time delay from ten seconds to ten minutes. Maximum ratings are : 1 000 W for incandescence, 500 VA/W halogen lamps, 250 VA/W fluorescent bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps (CFL)/LED of 250 VA/W.

These new motion sensors are available in presentation packaging from Legrand and its national distributor network.
